Deciding Factors (cont.)

 Many factors influence individual reactions, even within families. Do not
expect the same reaction to the same incident even in the same family.

 It is critical for educators to understand that a person’s social context can
have a tremendous impact on the severity of the resulting trauma
    symptoms.

 Ecological fit, as explained by Mary Harvey, “refers to the quality and
helpfulness of the relationship existing between the individual and his or
her social context. Interventions that achieve ecological fit are those that
enhance the environment-person relationship – i.e., that reduce isolation,
foster social competence, support positive coping, and promote
belongingness in relevant social contexts.” (p. 20)
